Continuing with her interest in memory, Deborah began working with found and scavenged mass-produced porcelain tchotchkes. The name “qworks” is a portmanteau of the words quirky and works. Mass production with molds is a form of industrial memory. Many of the pieces she finds are souvenirs from someone’s travels. There are lots of source objects in thrift stores, which is where she collects many of her raw materials. She cuts them apart and reassembles them to create new narratives, giving them a new life.
