ceramic, glazes, stains, porcelain flowers and in-glaze luster bee decals

Protector tells two stories, which accounts for the clear separation of the top and the bottom of the sculpture. The top features a female in a calm blue sky with a swarm of bees surrounding her. Her gaze is inquisitive and playful. Below the sky is a garden of flowers and vegetation.

Protection of bees and their habitats is necessary for the garden and for human survival. The arms are in a protective position. The female protects the bees for her survival and as she protects her own personal garden. The carved flowers are a nod to the works of Judith Leyster.
